The technology · by JUMBOGUARD
A different class of sealer.
For decades there were only two ways to seal a surface: lay a film on top, or soak into the pores. In Perth's sun and cleaning, both wear out, so you reseal again and again. JUMBOGUARD is a third way: a mineral sol-gel that bonds into the surface itself, so it holds up where the others fail.
Two old ways, and a new one
The category had two options. We're the third.
Every sealer you've been sold is one of two kinds, and each has a built-in flaw that quietly puts you on a repeat cycle. JUMBOGUARD works on a different principle, so it doesn't inherit either.
The old way · 1
A coating on top
Acrylic and "protective coating" films sit on the surface. They look good at first, then chalk, peel or yellow, and lift under hot tyres. And when a film fails, it has to be stripped back to bare surface before you can redo it, so each round costs more than the last.
The old way · 2
A sealer in the pores
Penetrating silane/siloxane sealers soak in and repel from inside. Better, but WA sun, alkaline cleaners and pressure washing break that chemistry down, and it fails from the inside out, often within a year or two. On natural stone, many also leave a residue or shift the colour as they build up.
The new class
Part of the surface
JUMBOGUARD's mineral sol-gel bonds and cures into the surface as an inorganic network, protecting right where wear, cleaning and contamination happen, and holding up where the other two break down.
The catch most people never notice: the sealers in common use are typically redone every year or two in Perth conditions. The saving on a cheap seal is the most expensive thing about it.
How it works
It doesn't sit on the surface. It becomes it.
JUMBOGUARD carries microscopic mineral particles into the surface, where they cure into an inorganic Si–O–Si network, the same class of bond that holds glass and stone together. It isn't stuck on; it's chemically part of the material.
Bonds in, not on
It cures into the surface as a nano-thin mineral network, chemically integrated, not a film that can peel or a layer that washes off. There's nothing sitting on top to fail.
Protects where it counts
The protection sits at the surface (exactly where wear, cleaning and contamination happen), not hidden in the pores where a seal can fail long before you notice.
And it still breathes
Because it works at the surface instead of plugging the pores, moisture can still escape. A film that seals moisture in can wreck stone from behind: trapped salt crystallises under the seal and flakes the surface off. JUMBOGUARD protects the surface and lets the material breathe.
Water isn't the whole story
The oil most sealers ignore.
Water beads off most coatings. But it's oil and grease that leave the marks that stay: the greasy soap scum that clouds glass, the barbecue and engine oil that stain stone for good. Water-repellent-only coatings don't stop them. JUMBOGUARD is engineered to.
GlassProtect · glass
Repels the oily film, not just the water
In hard water, soap turns to a greasy scum: the film that actually clouds shower glass, and the one water-repellent coatings can't shift. GlassProtect is genuinely oil-repellent, with an initial oil contact angle around 84°, so minerals and soap scum can no longer grip. What lands sits loosely on the surface instead of bonding to it, so a spot lifts with a quick wipe or squeegee, where on bare glass it would bond on and etch in for good. That's the real win: GlassProtect protects glass against the permanent etching that ruins untreated glass, so keeping it clear goes from a razor blade and a bottle of acid to a single wipe. You are not buying glass that never needs a wipe. You are buying glass where a wipe is all it ever takes.
MineralProtect · stone & concrete
Sheds oil, PFAS-free by design
Oil and grease sit on top and lift off in cleaning instead of soaking in, so a dropped-oil or barbecue spill wipes up instead of marking the stone for good. The sealers that used to repel oil on stone were fluoropolymer (PFAS), now being regulated out; Australia has already banned PFOA, PFOS and PFHxS. MineralProtect delivers it without them: PFAS-free by design, not by reformulation.
Proven, not promised
Built to survive the cleaning.
The real test isn't the rain. It's the cream cleanser and scrub pad people attack glass with, and the pressure washing and alkaline cleaners stone gets. That's what wears sealers out. JUMBOGUARD is built for it, so it keeps working for years, not months.
- Still beading at 3,000 scrub cycles. Around 3× slower repellency loss than the leading brand, in comparable cream-cleanser abrasion testing. (GlassProtect)
- Stable under alkaline cleaners and pressure washing. The exact conditions that hydrolyse and fail standard silane/siloxane sealers, invisibly, then all at once. (MineralProtect)
- Degrades slowly, not suddenly. No hidden failure point. It eases back toward untreated over years, tested at independent houses including TÜV Rheinland, SGS, Intertek and REACH.
Independently tested & certified
What it saves you
Seal once. Not every summer.
Here's what the chemistry adds up to. The sealers in common use quietly break down within a year or two in WA, so you pay to redo them, again and again, and a failed film has to be stripped first. A seal built into the surface changes the maths.
Fewer re-do cycles
A seal built to survive the cleaning lasts for years and degrades slowly, so you're not paying to reseal every summer to keep the same surface protected.
No stripping to redo
When it's eventually due, it reapplies over itself. There's no failed film to grind back to bare surface first, the step that makes every film re-coat cost more than the last.
It protects the surface itself
Because it breathes, it won't trap moisture and flake your stone, the way a film can. You're protecting the surface you paid for, not just making it look cleaner for a month.
And it's on the record. Every Extera seal is registered under a 10-year guarantee. Seal it once, properly, and you're covered.
Why certified application matters
The chemistry is only half of it.
A next-generation coating still only performs if the surface is prepared correctly and the product is applied to spec. That's the whole reason the guarantee runs through Certified Applicators: the coating and the craft are inseparable.
- Preparation first. A full clean so the seal bonds to a sound, open surface.
- Applied to spec. The right coating, the right coverage, the right conditions.
- Registered. Documented and backed by the JUMBOGUARD Performance Guarantee.
